Winchester Model 1873, .22 Short cal. lever action rifle. Serial #385327B, mfg. 1891. Antique. Third Model. It comes as a shock to some that these big heavy '73s were once chambered in the puny .22 short caliber, but here's proof. Note the absence of the loading gate on the right side of the receiver - it is a solid plate - loads at the front of the tube under the barrel. This specimen is in good condition with 24" octagon barrel. Bore is only fair with little rifling which is often the case with these old black powder rimfires. Nice smooth patina on all metal surfaces. Works well. Stock is chocolate color and does not appear to have been sanded. Top part of right side of forearm missing. Some ping marks on top of receiver and sides and brass on bottom of breech block. Bottom of brass breech block reads: ".22 cal. Short". Great Winchester lever in a rare caliber. A MUST for 1873 collectors! Antique. Can ship right to your doorstep.
